Your Courage Asks Me What I'm Afraid Of
International Justice Mission has a wide network of supporters amongst Christian music artists, (called IJM Artist Partners) and Sara Groves is one of the strongest voices for the fight of justice. She has a heart for the world and her music and beautiful voice are an expression of this heart. Below is a music video for her song "I Saw What I Saw" and captures her time in Rwanda, where hope abounds because of the Body of Christ. Most recently, this song was playing during our recent prayer retreat last week. The song hit me deeply as I looked at the photos of the girls and women who have been rescued by our office. As I was reading their stories full of both pain and hope, these lyrics expressed what I could not at the moment. Good songs do that, I guess. The song importantly reminds me that all of us are made more courageous because of the incredible courage of those who suffer. We must not succumb to ours fears, because they have not - instead they continue to be brave, they continue to hope and dream. Until they stop hoping, we, as the Body of Christ, must choose to be brave rather than be safe. We simply cannot be both. A music video of this song was also reportedly played on Thursday after Gary Haugen's presentation at the Willow Creek Leaders Summit using images of those rescued by IJM.
For those in Southern California, the Justice Tour will make a stop on November 8-9, 2008 at Calvary Chapel in Redlands for the special music for all 4 services (6:30 pm, 8:00 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am), telephone: 909-793-8744
"Your courage asks me what I'm afraid of...Your courage asks me what I am made of..."
I saw what I saw and I can't forget it
I heard what I heard and I can't go back
I know what I know and I can't deny it
Something on the road, cut me to the soul
Your pain has changed me
your dreams inspire
your face a memory
your hope a fire
your courage asks me what I'm afraid of
(what I am made of)
and what I know of love
we've done what we've done and we can't erase it
we are what we are and it's more than enough
we have what we have but it's no substitution
Something on the road, touched my very soul
I say what I say with no hesitation
I have what I have and I'm giving it up
I do what I do with deep conviction
Something on the road, changed my world
