Standing in the Gap
Over the weekend, one of our young girls, J. at My Refuge House was taken to the nearest emergency room at a nearby hospital after one day of complaining of severe abdominal pain. The following day, she underwent a successful appendectomy to remove an severely inflamed appendix. Thank God that this operation happened before it ruptured. I spent some time at the hospital on Saturday, where I discovered some pretty common things that happen in hospitals here in the Philipppines. Because of poor funding and support, patients are often asked to purchase their own medicine, medical supplies, and in our case, even laundry detergent and fabric softener. Treatment is sometimes delayed or even denied because of ability to pay. Fortunately, we were able to stand in the gap on behalf of J. this weekend and ensure that she receive the necessary medical attention that she needed. Otherwise, as commony said here in the Philippines, "if you don't have money, you die." . Fortunately, today, this young lady was not one of them.
As I was waiting outside of the operation room, I couldn't help but thank God for all those who support MRH through their generosity, love and care, and prayers. Because of you, we stood in the gap - a huge gap - for J. this weekend. We do that everyday here at MRH, and we know that God loves these girls because of people who have a heart for this ministry.
After one hour in post-operation recovery, she was transferred back to her hospital bed, where an open Bible was on her pillow. At some time before she was taken into surgery, J and/or our house parent, decided to seek assurance from God's Word. In the end, all we have is Him. Praise God that J. understands this already.
J. was dischared yesterday afternoon and she is recovering nicely here at MRH. She is set for a post-surgery follow-up appointment tomorrow. Our house parent on duty at the time of discharge told me that J's parents, who were bedside for most of her time at the hospital, were grateful to tears, on what we did for their family. Our house parent aptly told them that it was all for God's glory.
Today, our entire house is praising the One who is Faithful.
