IJM Cebu Prayer Gathering
Yesterday, IJM Cebu had their First Annual Prayer Gathering at a local church here in Cebu. Along with church and community partners, from 2-9 pm, we worshiped, praised, and celebrated God's awesome power and faithfulness in His work of justice here in this city. We acknowledged that the work of justice is larger than any of us, therefore we cling to Zechariah 4:6, which is the verse for our office this year:
"'Not by might, nor by power, but my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty."
What an amazing amazing time we had. I will always remember:
*the exhausting yet joyful work of prayer - in smaller prayer cirlces, we prayed for particular clients, whose brief stories were shared. We prayed for their rescue, protection, healing, for justice in their legal cases, and most importantly, that they experience the love of Abba Father, who loves them deeply and has amazing plans for their lives. We prayed for our our relationships with local law enforcement, for integrity in their work. We prayed for the city, the country, and its leaders. We prayed for our social workers, attorneys and staff that their hope and strength and couraged be increased. We prayed and prayed.
*we listened to a powerful testimony shared by a young woman client, who thanked IJM for their caring love and protection and her faith in God which has brought her through this painful yet victorious journey. All of us, including Megumi were so moved to witness her courage and strength. She encouraged us to be even more steadfast in our work. Our God is indeed might to save.
* our time of praise and worship, which was led by our staff was incredible. We sang and lifted ourselves to our King, Strong Tower, and Deliverer. What a soaring experience!
*the affection and love the IJM family showed to my family. They are so into our kids, who warmed up to them as the evening progressed.
*God is doing amazing things here in Cebu. I couldn't help but imagining the smile and delight He had over our gathering. I was overwhelmed how He has invited each of us into this work. I thanked God for using me. I thanked God for using my co-workers. I thanked God for the community of prayer -both here and back home.
