Oh, the Darkness
My longing for Advent, including the Second Coming has been fueled by the sheer depravity that exists in this world. Of course, I've had a glimpse of this as a result of my time in the Philippines with International Justice Mission and My Refuge House. The darkness is so dark, you wonder how it can ever be overcome.
But one thing is true and you can test it out by lighting a candle in a pitch black room. Light always consumes darkness - always.
My awareness of depravity was expanded after watching the PBS feature below. I share also the 3rd stanza of a well-known Christmas Carol. There are 2-3 lines which always move me now.
Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
