Megumi Means Grace

Megumi's mother and grandparents just got done visiting us here in Cebu for the last five days. Megumi and all of the kids enjoyed the entire time, which was spent at a local beach resort. Lots of swimming, lots of playing in the hotel room, and lots of good food. Megumi's grandparents, Takeo and Yoneko, are in the late 80s, and their determination to visit us here was especially heartwarming. Megumi's grandfather has slowed down, but you can still see the active spirit, which they have carried their entire lives. A couple unfortunate incidents marred what was otherwise a great time. On Sunday, after a tour around the city, we discovered that 20,000 yen was missing out of the safety deposit box in their room. We filed a complaint but of course nothing came out of it other than a weak apology and complimentary buffet dinner. Memo next time: pick a code that is harder to figure out. The code that Megumi had set up for them was - ummm 1-2-3-4.

The other unfortunate incident happened yesterday, when a older Japanese man, who was a guest in a nearby room, approached Megumi complaining that the kids were too loud and that he had come to the resort for peace and quiet. He essentially told them to go home, and Megumi, taken back by this guys rudeness, apologize and actually considered just packing up and go. She called management to relocate them to another room, thus separating themselves from her mother and grandparents. The guy later came over to apologize for they way he reacted and offered to treat everyone out for dinner. Of course, Megumi declined. Megumi showed this pathetic soul so much grace, I can hardly believe it. I felt like harrasing him in some secretive way.

Other than that, they had a great time. Megumi and the kids see them in Japan in four weeks.

You're right, Russ, Megumi means grace. I can readily admit that I wouldn't have bestowed even a semblance of graciousness in the face of the man's rudeness. Just ask Jess, I scare her sometimes. Haha. Yes, God is still working on me.
